Raw edge machine appliqué can look as good as hand appliqué when using effective techniques and tools. The workshop focuses on tools, including fusible web, appliqué fabric, thread types, weights, and bobbins. Techniques which can really improve the appearance of your appliqué include selecting the right fusible for the project, choosing a good stitch for the appearance you are seeking, and learning how to move your fabric to get the best look possible from your stitching. Kit/handout Fee: $50 (Paid to the teacher in the classroom). Kit includes: Fusible web samples. Fusible tutorial handout. 4 pre-fused appliqué blocks to stitch on. A selection of thread weights and types. Edge stitching tutorial. Pre-wound bobbin.
Student supply list:
- Sewing machine with an open-toe foot
- Sewing Machine Manual
- Knee lifter for your machine if it has one
- Machine needles in sizes: 80/12 and 70/10
- White 50 wt. thread
- Thread snips or small scissors
- Small travel iron, and ironing mat
* SEWING MACHINES ARE NOT PROVIDED IN THIS CLASS. Bring your own machine in good working order, pedal and cord.
Sewing Machine and Supply storage: For your convenience, we have available, free of charge temporary and overnight storage at the class registration desk located at Nevada Office 1, across the hall from classroom N5 on the lower level of the hotel.
