Students will learn to make a traditional furoshiki (Japanese wrapping cloth) using sashiko stitching techniques. Yukata fabrics will be added for additional design interest. Different types of sashiko stitches will be taught as well as how to transfer a design to fabric. Sashiko designs are provided in the kit and a variety of stencils will be offered for use in class for additional design motifs. Trunk show in class.
Kit/handout Fee: $35 (Paid to the teacher in the classroom).
Kit includes: Indigo fabric for top of furoshiki, yukata fabric for center design squares, sashiko thread, needle, design templates, transfer paper and handouts.
Student supply list: Straight pins, scissors for cutting fabrics and threads, thimble and needle threader (optional), ball point pen, ruler (minimum 12" long - doesn't have to be wide), and a white wash-out marking pen or pencil.
