Level: All Levels Class Type: Lecture/Demo Category: Other/With Small Hands-on Dye Project Machine(s): Not required
Learn to create your own beautiful hand-dyed fabrics! I have been dyeing fabric for more than 30 years, and I’m known for my vibrant, multicolored yardage. I’ll let you in on all my “secrets”! You will become familiar with the principles of color theory, the use of Procion fiber reactive dyes, and many surface design techniques such as immersion dyeing to create color progressions or value gradations; direct dyeing or dye painting; ice dyeing; resist techniques (shibori); stamping and stenciling.
I will discuss and/or demonstrate all these techniques, and you will have the opportunity to dye a fat quarter or small scarf in your choice of colors. You will leave this class with a detailed description of the techniques, so you can continue your fabric dyeing journey at home.
Kit/handout Fee: $15 Paid to the teacher in the classroom. Kit includes: Fat quarter or small scarf; use of my dyes and chemicals; dye recipes and detailed description of my techniques.
Student supply list: Plastic gloves, trash bag, and Ziploc bag.
