In this one-day workshop you will use an original flower drawing (20" x 24") provided by the instructor ($10 fee; Seven flowers to choose from: Poppy, Rose, Sunflower, Daylily, Calla, Iris, and Bird of Paradise.) We'll translate this into a fabric collage using contemporary methods and innovative art techniques, such as free-motion machine embroidery, thread painting, embellishing with Angelina fiber and beads, couching and bobbin drawing. Student supply list: Fabric pieces (fat quarter size or larger) for your choice of flowers, preferably batiks or hand-dyes. Hand-dyed fabric will be available for sale in class ($22/yard) You will need one yard of background fabric; 2 yards of fusible web with paper backing, such as Pellon 805 Wonder Under or Steam-A-Seam; paper and pencil; scissors and pins; rotary cutter and board; a Teflon pressing sheet and travel iron (optional) No sewing machine necessary.
