Many of us have a large collection of gorgeous threads that are too thick to thread through a sewing machine needle or too fragile to withstand the machine’s tension disks and thread guides. With bobbin drawing, you will be able to use these threads. Bobbin drawing is a technique of machine sewing from the back (your work will be upside down) so bobbin threads show on the front of your piece. Learn the basics of this exciting technique.
Kit/handout Fee: $15 (Paid to the teacher in the classroom).
Kit includes: Background fabric (10" x 20"); tree fabric; rock fabric; stabilizer; fusible web; hand-dyed cotton thread
Student supply list: A sewing machine in good working order. Preferably a machine with a removable bobbin case. A machine with a drop-in bobbin case is okay too, but please bring your sewing machine manual. You don’t need a fancy machine as long as you can either lower or cover the feed dogs for free-motion embroidery. Regular sewing foot and darning or embroidery foot.
Sewing supplies: scissors, green and brown thread, pins, large-eyed needle (hand sewing) and Topstitch needles 14/90 (for the machine).
Practice piece: 15" square piece of fabric with 15" square of stabilizer (heavy duty tear away) or 15" square quilt sandwich. All those beautiful threads you want to try out: Crochet thread (5 and 10-wt), metallics, 12-wt threads, regular 30 and 40-wt. Machine embroidery threads etc.
* SEWING MACHINES ARE NOT PROVIDED IN THIS CLASS. Bring your own machine in good working order, pedal and cord.
Sewing Machine and Supply storage: For your convenience, we have available, free of charge temporary and overnight storage at the class registration desk located at Nevada Office 1, across the hall from classroom N5 on the lower level of the hotel.
