This class is a great introduction to the art of Baltimore Album Quilt making. Students will learn the basics of hand appliqué, the dimensional floral technique of ruching, and hand embroidery. The focus is on the freezer-paper-on-the-bottom method of appliqué which is ideal for beginners and advanced students alike. Kit/handout Fee: $15 (Paid to the teacher in the classroom). Kit includes:
- Baltimore Blooms Pattern
- One 14" square of fabric for background
- One 6" square of green fabric for leaves
- 2 stems 13" long prepared with steam-a-seam tape
- One 1" x 40" red strip prepared for ruching
- One 1" x 8" yellow strip prepared for ruching
- Leaf template
- Freezer paper
- 6" x 6" 2 yards total of embroidery floss in dark green or light green and brown
- A sample of YLI silk thread
- One Jeana Kimball straw needle size 11
Student supply list:
- Ruler
- Paper and fabric scissors
- Embroidery scissors (optional)
- Basting needle (an embroidery needle works well)
- * Applique needle (straw needles size 11, Foxglove Cottage recommended)
- Embroidery needle
- * Black or navy silk thread (YLI 100 weight)
- * Beige silk thread (YLI 100 weight)
- Red cotton thread
- dark yellow or gold cotton thread
- Basting thread (any thread that you want to get rid of)
- Marking pen (black Pigma® pen size 01 or 02 recommended)
- Pencil
- Tweezers (optional)
- Clover Mini Iron (optional but recommended)
