Apple Cores and
Jewel Hearts

Elevate your English Paper Piecing (EPP) skills beyond the hexagon! Learn to create an apple core, and a jeweled heart using your fabric stash! Michele will also teach you how to sew the infamous flatback stitch to sew your shapes together! Hand applique the finished shapes (quilt center) to a base fabric; add a pieced border; and hand or machine quilt! * A short inspirational PowerPoint on apple cores, and jeweled hearts will be shown for inspiration!
* This is a technique class and this project will not be completed in class.
*This class is not for EPP beginners and those attending need to have EPP experience.
Kit/handout Fee: $20 (Paid to the teacher in the classroom).
Kit includes: Forty-nine 2" apple core EPP templates; Forty-eight 1" EPP jewel templates; and a quilt pattern for each quilt.
Student supply list:
*Please use whatever fabric and colors you desire.
For apple core quilt: Forty-nine 3" squares of 100% cotton fabric (your choice to use specific colors or make it scrappy)
For the jeweled heart quilt: Forty-eight 2 1/2 " x 2 1/2 " strips of fabric (2 strips of fabric per "jewel heart" = 24 sets of 2 strips)
Hand sewing needle that is comfortable for you
Small spool of cotton thread for basting (any color)
A small spool of 100% cotton thread - 50 or 60 wt. - medium or light grey OR to match fabric
Water soluble fabric glue stick (no craft glue sticks, please)
Small rotary cutter; 1" x 6" ruler; and small cutting mat
Small sharp pair of scissors (for fabric)
Sharp Pencil
*If needed or desired: Thimble; battery operated portable light
