Abbigail was designed to look great using a large variety of fabric genres from historical to modern. Abbigail transitions an original block packed with numerous techniques into a bright and beautiful quilt. There is a contrasting chain running through the blocks and setting that creates a lot of visual movement. Many opportunities to improve and expand your piecing skills abound, including square in a square, fast nine patch, quick corners, diagonal setting, and so much more.

Appliquilting on your Longarm Machine - WF-39

This fun and creative class combine two great techniques: quilting and appliqué into one! The appliqué is stitched free motion and serves as the quilting stitch as well. This is the ultimate in multi-tasking! Discover how to create many different and unique appliqué stitches free motion. You will explore both raw edge techniques and turned edge invisible appliqué. A variety of free motion background quilting designs will also be explored with information on selecting appropriate designs and choosing the right quilting paths! You will have fun creating a quick table runner in class while learning the appliquilting technique along with great designs to compliment any appliqué quilt!

Student supply list: notebook/sketchpad/pencil, light-colored marking pencil for quilting (such as Bohin or Sewline), thread snips.

Aubryanna includes a technique that is often feared; partial seams. Once you understand the mechanics of the process, it becomes easily apparent that this is one technique that is actually rather simple. The blocks stitch up quickly. You will also experience flying geese, half square triangles, as well as how to embrace a diagonal setting.

Awesome Athleisure Wear it Anywhere - SF-11

The fashions of athleisure, yoga leggings and tops are now part of our everyday wardrobes and they're really fun to sew. Learn to make the most fashionable and wearable versions as you explore the components with an expert. Kathy, an experienced fitter who loves to work with knits of all types will show you how pick and size patterns to four-way stretch fabrics with different 'negative ease', how to resource fabrics and notions introducing "Filpar" elastic from Italy and special seaming techniques for both sewing machine and Serger to make flattering and fun athleisure wear. Learn how to copy yoga yokes from finished garments and then fit them to your leggings for a custom fit. You can even make this extra long yoke out of contrasting compression fabric and then upscale your low rise pants to the "Spanks" effect high rise pants that smooth and slim your waistline. Finally, learn to make the garments your own by adding details like pockets and zippers to hold your smart phone securely.

Continuous Bias Binding - WF-36

Make a place mat (square corners) and an oven mitt (rounded corners) using 1/2 inch continuous bias binding with the SIMPLI-EZ bias ruler. Join the ends of the binding to make an invisible and strong seam. Hand-done blind stitch completes the project.

Kit includes: Binding material; reversible, pre-quilted fabric; printed instructions.

Student supply list: Sewing machine in good working order; rotary cutter and optional large cutting mat (17" x 23" minimum); basic sewing supplies: light machine thread and bobbin, fabric scissors, sharp embroidery needle and straight pins.

On loan during class: SIMPLI-EZ Bias Ruler; Bohin fine line marking pencil with different colored leads. (Both items can be purchased after class.)

Copy Cat Sewing Workshop - WW-4

Learn a series of new techniques which enable you to sew clothes just like the ones you already own and love. In this longer-form interactive class, you'll discuss favorite garments of fellow students (maybe yours!), identify the reasons they're so well liked, then decide what to copy and how to do it. Explore Kathy's tried-and-true steps for copying sleeves, darts, seams, and gathers, learn to identify grain line, and more, as you discover how to create a whole new wardrobe -- inspired by your favorite looks and clothes. Learn to add facings, seam allowances, hemlines, smooth curves and more. You'll learn about choosing the right fabrics, and how to correctly add details like ruffles, pleats, and pockets to make a garment more interesting and more "you".

Kit/handout Fee: $25 (Paid to the teacher in the classroom)
Kit includes: Tutorial, Drafting pen, and Seam Allowance Ruler.

Student supply list: A new box of Waxed paper, Cut Right Brand, permanent felt marking pens, paper scissors, Magic Transparent tape (green label) pins, measuring tape. AND: a pair of jeans, slacks or skirt with slash side pockets and a garment with details you want to copy. You can come to class without garments, but Kathy says you get the biggest bang for your buck when you bring what you want to copy! She will review the collection of garments and pick from those to demonstrate her waxed paper techniques for copying ready to wear.
