Who fits the dressmaker? She does! When one has no one to help her, we must learn to fit ourselves. The easiest way to do this is through measurements. Come and learn the art of measuring. Accurate measurements are the key to getting a good fit for yourself by yourself. The four measurements listed on the pattern envelope aren't enough. Learn all of the techniques of a master fitter and the necessary measurements that must be taken for a fit that stands out in the crowd!

Pattern Alteration "Boot Camp" - WW-15

No more discarding newly made clothes because of poor fit! Learning the elements of fit that will enable you to become a better sewer and fitter are essential. Learn from a master "sergeant" the elements of pattern alteration including how to choose the right size, necessary amounts of ease, about the three different methods of alteration, how to combine them, and all the principles and guidelines for success. Then have hand-on experiences using half-scale practice patterns to execute alterations for some commonly needed changes in the bust, back, abdomen, buttocks and arms! All of these exercises will enable you to become a "Sew Successful Seamstress!"

Kit/handout Fee: $14 (Paid to the teacher in the classroom)
Kit includes: Ring binder, page protectors, instruction sheets, and all half scale practice patterns to be used.

Student supply list: Small paper scissors Invisible or removable "Scotch" tape Straight pins 6-inch up to a 12-inch clear ruler Black and red pencils 10 X 12 (approx.) piece of foam board or 1/4-inch-thick cardboard.

Tired of cutting your pattern into puzzle pieces and trying to put it back together to make it "kind of fit?" Have you ever wanted to just pull out the seam allowances and magically fit your figure? It is almost that easy with the seam method of pattern alteration. Have "Ah-ha" visual experiences as you watch how our seams can "swivel" to enlarge or make smaller for busts, back, waists and hips. Learn how to make hinges to swivel your seams to meet the needs of YOUR personal shape. Bring scotch tape and small scissors for a hands-on experience!

Pattern Alteration: Looking at the Whole Picture - ST-6

Often when we begin a pattern alteration process, we just focus on the biggest change first. STOP! Look at the "whole picture" of the body area we are fitting and check to see if there are multiple alterations that might be needed. We may be able to combine some alterations and perhaps even eliminate some. Learn the order of checking measurements and how they relate to one another. This class will give a new awareness in looking at our body differences!

The Art of the Dart - ST-3

This is a dart class like no other!

Have you ever sewn a garment only to throw it away because of the fit? Errors abound in some books and magazines in suggestions for altering patterns. Jan Minott (fitting expert) in 1978 wrote "When alterations that perform poorly continue to be taught, surely it is an injustice to the student. Come and learn what to look for to be able to recognize where problems may occur before you cut the garment out.
